Controlled enhancement reduction with carbide bits

Carbide bits cut enhancement material, so the shape, grit and your touch all matter. Plan the reduction first, then change to the right refinement step as you approach the result you need.

Instructions & Downloads

  1. Choose the bit for the enhancement and amount of material you’re removing. Coarse and medium choices have different roles; check the exact bit’s intended use before starting.
  2. Check the bit’s condition and fit it with the machine stopped. Follow the handpiece directions for insertion and locking, and the bit’s instructions for direction and operating limits.
  3. Use controlled, moving passes over the enhancement. Let the bit cut without extra pressure, and check the remaining thickness frequently.
  4. Change your approach as the bulk comes down. Don’t carry a bulk-removal pass onto the natural nail or surrounding skin; use the appropriate refinement technique within your training.
  5. Stop for heat, discomfort, catching or vibration. Clean a reusable bit before reprocessing, and choose a method confirmed as compatible with carbide. The Academy care guide explains why some tool disinfectants exclude carbide.
